PTC Laboratories’ dedicated, talented scientific staff and board members consist of leaders in the genetic testing community and are committed to excellence. GeneTrait’s Medical Director, Dr. Judith Miles M.D., Ph.D. was the Genetics Consultant to the State of Missouri for more than 25 years and is the former Director of the Division of Medical Genetics for the University of Missouri, School of Medicine. GeneTrait’s laboratory director, supervisors, and managers each have more than 20 years of experience in high throughput, high-quality DNA testing in a demanding environment.

Kim Gorman, President has a degree in chemistry. Kim worked for three years on the Human Genome Project (an international effort to map the location of DNA throughout human chromosomes) at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, then spent three years as a DNA Criminalist with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Crime Laboratory. Kim has been the laboratory supervisor for PTC Laboratories since it opened in 1996. She oversees all aspects of paternity and forensic testing performed by PTC Laboratories.Back To Top

Michelle Beckwith, Vice President has a degree in Chemistry, B.S and is a DNA analyst with a background in population statistics. Michelle worked on the Human Genome Project (an international effort to map the location of DNA throughout human chromosomes) at the Washington University School of Medicine before joining PTC Laboratories in 1996 and also participated in the Hurricane Katrina DNA Identification Project as the DNA Data Review Team Leader. She is the Paternity Supervisor for PTC Laboratories. Back To Top

Judith Miles, M.D., Ph.D. is PTC Laboratories’ Medical Director. In addition to her medical degree, Dr. Miles has a Ph.D. in cytogenetics. She is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Missouri School of Medicine. Dr. Miles is a Board Certified medical geneticist and is also Board Certified in pediatrics. Back To Top

Charlotte Phillips, Ph.D. is PTC Laboratories’ Laboratory Director. Dr. Phillips is also a Professor, Department of Biochemistry and Child Health, Division of Medical Genetics, University of Missouri, Columbia. Dr. Phillips is Board Certified in clinical molecular genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics.

Christian Carson, Ph.D. is a PTC Laboratories Co-Laboratory Director. Dr. Carson came to PTC Laboratories from the University of Missouri, Columbia. Dr. Carson’s background is in molecular genetics. He received a Ph.D. in 1993 from the University of Florida. Dr. Carson brings to PTC Laboratories many years of experience in gene mapping and chromosome analysis.Back To Top

Steve Smith, Ph.D. is a PTC Laboratories Associate Laboratory Director. Dr. Smith has an extensive background in molecular biology and bacterial genetics.  He worked for 10 years in a perinatal physiology lab at Washington University School of Medicine using molecular tools to research human placental development and function in normal and pathologic pregnancies.  He earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Missouri- Columbia performing research manipulating bacterial genetics to identify and characterize previously unknown metabolic pathways.
