Legal Considerations
Even if you do not intend to use your paternity test in court, circumstances may change and you may want to use it in court at a later time. Also, you may eventually need an official paternity report for such things as health insurance or Social Security benefits. Whenever possible, it is much better to have the specimens collected in a way that allows the test to be used as an official document if necessary.

PTC's paternity tests are admissible in court. In fact, there are several advantages to our type of paternity test in court.

We normally use the PCR/STR method of DNA testing because it helps us to provide you with the most reliable testing possible and is currently the most widely used type of DNA testing. We also offer powerful RFLP testing to provide extremely reliable test results, even in the most difficult cases. Please see the discussion of admissibility hearings under the topic of Forensic Testing

Another advantage in court is the higher level of certainty provided by Paternity Testing Corporation's tests in general (see the discussions under Reliability, False Positives, and Guarantee).  Because of the higher level of certainty of PTC tests in general, on average our tests are more "probative." In other words, they do a better job of proving that the tested man is in fact the biological father of the child.

PTC has an attorney on staff, who is happy to assist other attorneys with questions such as issues of admissibility of DNA evidence in court. There is no charge for this service. Expert witnesses are also available for depositions and court testimony (See the Fee Schedule).
